On Saturday 22-8-23, The fans at Bob goalie field or watching the live stream got to see the Mighty Maroons in a thriller game. We have been waiting all year since the announcement of our new head coach.
From the first day of summer camp till the day of the game Coach Turner told his players “They can’t think of the past because I wasn’t here my staff wasn’t here and there are new players and got a couple of different guys to show them thinking of the past is the first thing they need to get out of there mind because when you trying to improve trying to do something a little different you can’t dwell in the past.” The coach said.
“Also I try to get these guys to do the little things right because if they can do the little things right then success will come wins will come and have to build within and every play has to be different I always preach that to them every play has to be different because there will success with plays there will play that aren’t successful. So them work on doing their job and only working on themselves through the course of a team and it could possibly be better than it was the last couple of years”.
The Maroons took a lead at 13-0 against Maschouta in just the first quarter. With a Touchdown from Troy McLean on a 16-yard run and then a 29-yard run by Joseph Connor.
Trailing by 13-0 Mascoutah went down and scored 2 times taking a 14-13 lead against the Maroons.
Since they started to lose with a score of 14-13 Coach Turner told them “… Stay the course and it’s part of the game and Maschouta is a good program. They have been a good program for the last few years. It’s more of stay the course and do the things right that we haven’t been doing right, keep playing hard and keep playing fast and keep playing physical and get some stops and when we get some stops offense needs to score and we were able to do that in that game and we came out on top”.
Then Chapman put the Maroons up with the lead again at 19-14. When Junior Michale Sutton ran for a 40 yard touchdown and another touchdown by Chapman making it 27-14. It became a 6 point game when the Indians scored another touchdown making it 27-21. When the starting Quarterback had to leave, Junior Noah Herd came in at the 35 and at 4 & 15 on the Indians 35 yard line. West only had a 6 point lead and Heard threw for a 17 yard completion to Exeilman. Then just only 2 plays later Troy McLean Ran it in for a 6 yard touchdown for the Maroons making it 33-21 and with a 12 point lead for West. The Indians scored another touchdown making it 33-28 and when they failed to convert on fourth down the Maroons were able to take a knee and take the win at home week 1.
“It’s one game Congratulations , enjoy this one and tomorrow start getting ready for Fort Zumwalt” said Head coach Turner.
